One of the primary goals of the Care Cost Estimator was to help Blue Cross members access quality care with clear information on value. This feature allowed users to search, find, and estimate the cost of specific medical procedures via the web and mobile app.

From 2018 to 2023, I collaborated closely with the product owner and development teams to research, design, and continuously improve the care estimator. As technology advanced, it brought greater accuracy to cost calculations. I iterated on numerous design solutions, strategized future improvements, and gained valuable insights into how users engage with the tool. My research focused on understanding users’ perceptions of estimate accuracy and their overall comprehension of the content.

The design screens illustrate the mobile app’s evolution—from a less precise, complex interface to a streamlined, simplified experience that enables users to easily look up costs for each provider and procedure.

According to Ipsos comparative testing, our mobile design for the care cost estimator ranked higher than Sapphire’s industry-leading web estimator. This achievement validated our efforts to create an intuitive, accurate, and user-centered experience, setting a new standard in the industry for usability and member satisfaction.
